1984
How the 17 year old, Lisa McVey,
perserverd through an outrageous
26-hour abduction by serial killer Bobby Joe Long, and later on
helped the police catch him in only 12 days.
I
n 1984, at the age of 17, McVey was abducted by the the serial killer, Bobby Joe Long, who had
already killed at least 10 women in the Tampa Bay area of Florida.
At that time she was abducted, she was tortured, raped and threatened with a gun that if she won't do as he says, she will die.
McVey shares that "it was nothing new to me, my grandmother's boyfriend used to put a gun to my head every time he molested me for three years."
LISA'S LIFE BEFORE THE AUBDUCTION
LISA SUFFERED
FROM ABUSE
ALL HER LIFE
efore Lisa's aubduction, she had been forced by her drug and alcohol addict mother to move in and take care of her grandmother, when she was only 14.
Before that, she has been constantly in
and out of foster care.
Her grandmother's (Diane) boyfriend (Morris) used to sexual abuse her all the time she was living there, but her grandmother ignores it.
He used to put a gun to her head every time he
did, for three years.
Before the aubduction, she wanted to
end her life. She was sick of being constantly abused, and wanted to be free.
B
The night before the aubduction, she even wrote her suicide letter.
But on November, 1984, Lisa McVey was on her way home riding her bike, after a double night at a donut shop she worked at.
McVey says when she got off her shift, she was happy. She knew she was going to end her life once she gets back home,
and finally be "free".
While she bikes past a dark empty street, she notices a red car parked outfront of the church.
Her instincts thought it was odd.
But she shrugged it off and thought nothing of it, and continued biking.
While ignoring her guts, the driver inside the red car is hiding behind a van. The next think she knows is suddenly being grabbed off her bike from behind.
THE AUBDUCTION
Right after being snatched from behind, Bobby rapes Lisa in his car. But it doesn't end just there. After he finished raping her he blindfolds her and takes her into his studio apartment.

SHE SURVIVES
R
ight when she gets abducted, she decides to do whatever it takes to see another day.
McVey says that at that moment something just "clicked in her mind".
"Now I'm in a position where I felt like I was forced to fight for my life".
Despite everything she was going through at those moments, she uses her knowledge-based of watching many crime shows.
she knew that she had to store in her brain everything she could hear, see, smell and feel while she was inside Bobby's car.
While being blindfolded, she clenched her jaw so that she could see through a little space in the blindfold all the surroundings.
Through that tiny hole she created, McVey is now able to see that Bobby's car had red carpets and white seats.
She was also able to read the word "Magnum" written across the dashboard.
At his studio apartment, he keeps her abducted for 26 hours, while continually raping her all this time.
Bobby had already killed 10 women and raped over 50 women. Bobby first started his crime spree in the early 1980's. After raping dozens of women, he also started to kill them in 1984.
Then he kidnapped McVey in November 1984.
Certain that Long would murder her, she knew that in order to survive, she had to do whatever it takes.
McVey made up many stories to humanize herself to Long, the most notably one is
when she uses reverse psychology and tells Long that she has to come back home and take care of her sick father, who has nobody else in the world to take care of him. Claiming she was his only caregiver.
It wasn't true, but this information helped to convince Long that she was a human, and not just an object to abuse.

McVey was blindfolded all that time, so she couldn't see Bobby's face in order to identify him. But she didn't need to.
She tells him that she would be his girlfriend, it doesn't matter how they met.
While telling him that and asking him why he was doing it to women, and him responding because of a recent break up,Long lets her touch his face.
She could feel he had a small mustache, snub nose and more physical details she would be able to use later when she was asked to choose his photo while working with the investigators.
After 26 hours of torture, Long finally tells her that he can't keep her.
He takes Lisa back to his car, telling her he was going to take her home.
He drove her to an ATM and a gas station, and later on he dropped her next to a big tree, around 4:30 AM.
Long tells McVey to wait five minutes before taking off her blindfold, so he could drive away.
"Tell your father he's the reason I didn't kill you", he said
No one at home believes her story. And her grandmother's boyfriend beat the teen for hours.
THE
NIGHTMARE
KEEPS GOING
-Afterwards, Lisa heads to her grandmother's home, but the nightmare isn't over yet.
SURVIVING AND AT THE POLICE STATION
LARRY PINKERTON
A
fter Lisa finally arrives, Morris accuses her of "cheating" on him, and investigated her about where she had been for the past day.Despite her telling Diane and Morris the truth, they wouldn't believe her, and begged the two to
call the police. Finally, her grandmother called the Tampa Bay police in the morning, and told them that McVey was making up a story about being kidnapped and raped. Because McVey was classified as a missing person, police had no other chance but to lead an investigation. Lisa then headed to the police station to tell authorities what happened to her.
At the Tampa Bay police station, Lisa provided a female detective with a detailed account of her ordeal
But the detective didn't believe her story because of how much detail she remembered.
So McVey said to bring in somebody more intelligent.
The following day, Lisa McVey was interviewed by a detective named Larry Pinkerton, who took out his wallet, and showed her a picture of his daughter, and said, that he will protect her just like he would protect his daughter. He then quickly realized that she was telling the truth about her ordeal, and called the FBI.
Just a few days after McVey returned home, the local news reported saying that another body of a young lady has been found in the Tampa Bay area.
McVey heard the story as it played on TV at her grandmother's house, she called up Larry because she believed that whoever commited the murder of that young woman, was her aubducter.
Pinkerton contacted Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office, and got her in touch with deputies who were investigating the murders.
During the investigation, Larry asked McVey if she would undergo hypnosis to see if she was able to recall further information, but since she was a minor, she needed parent's permission to do so.
But when her grandmother's boyfriend, Morris, refused to allow McVey to be hypnotized, Larry thought it was strange, so he talked to McVey about it, then she broke down crying, and told him about the sexual abuse that was going on at home, which lead to his arrest.
Then, Larry arranged her a living in a center for runaway teens, so that way he could not hurt her again.
Now, after one of her abusers was arrested, she wanted the same for Long.
Placed in a center for runaway teens, Larry Pinkerton showed McVey a photo lineup of potential killers to be, based on the physical features of Long's face she felt with her hands, she successfully chose Long's photo.
She was then able to retrace her aubductor's movement in the car, and brought the cops to the ATM Long took her to before he relased her. Knowing that the car Long had was a Magnum, they combined all the information they had based of the car and the names found in the ATM, they found Robert Joseph Long.
12 days after Lisa McVey's aubduction, police arrested Bobby Joe Long. But unfortunately, the serial killer had already killed two more victims:
Virgina Lee Johnson, 18, and Kim Marie Swann, 21. before his arrest.
The next year, Long was found guilty of first-degree murder and sentenced to death.
In the end, he confessed to commiting 10 murderers, and raping dozens of other women.

The only one who believed her
"BELIEVE ME: THE AUBDUCTION OF LISA MCVEY"
BASED ON A TRUE STORY

T
he movie "Believe Me: The Aubduction Of Lisa McVey" was relased on September 30, 2018, in USA, and 2021 all worldwide. It's based on Lisa's story, it's a movie that talks about Lisa's aubduction and many of the little details actually apply to our real life Lisa, While the film does take some liberties with creativeness, the most important part is that it is based on true events.
Such as the stories she told Long when she was close to being killed, or even: "When he released me and drove off, I took off my blindfold and saw this amazing oak tree."
All these moments happened in real life as well!
The movie helped expose Lisa's story to the public.
"Believe Me" is now available to watch on Netflix.
The film may not be for the people who have a weak heart, but it does have a happy ending. that way the movie is suitable for people who like crime cases neatly tied in a bow.

O
ur site's message-
The message of our site is that every woman has power, strength, courage and truth.
Today, one in three women is sexually assaulted during her lifetime. One in five women is raped. This is a shocking reality, which must not be put up with! It is important for us to convey the message that we women are strong and brave,
and we can and should fight for our truth, and we can overcome any obstacle and challenge.

Why did we choose Lisa?

We chose Lisa because she is an inspiring figure who has it all - sophistication, strength and power, courage and willingness to fight for her truth.
Unfortunately, when Lisa was only 17 years old she was kidnapped by a serial killer in 1984, named Bobby Joe Long, who held her captive and raped her. She was Long's only surviving victim out of about 50 girls and women murdered by him, and eventually helped the police catch him. Long was arrested and executed in 2019.
Even before McVey helped the police catch the killer, she encountered doubters - both men and women - who did not believe her testimony. In addition, even before she was kidnapped and raped, McVey was sexually abused at home by her grandmother's partner, with her grandmother knowing about this.
Later, after helping the police crack the case and catch her rapist, McVey moved in with her uncle and aunt, and when she grew up she started working for the local sheriff's office, specializing in sex crimes with minor victims.
Lisa went through terrible suffering and horrible experiences, but still with the help of strength, true power and the stubborn fight for her truth, she managed to get to where she is today. Despite everything she went through, she grew and turned the horrible experiences she had into an opportunity to grow and help others and make the world a better place.

Why did we choose the colors-

We chose the color red to symbolize energy, urgency, willpower, courage, strength. At the same time, the red brings with it an aspect of warning as well as reminds an aggressive aspect, and even reminds of blood. This mix together is reminiscent of the different experiences that Lisa has had in her life. For the Chinese, red represents life and luck - and maybe in the end it shows that Lisa managed to stay alive with all her abilities, thanks to her resourcefulness and luck as well.
The color blue to symbolize trust, something you can trust, calmness, confidence, optimism, stability, truth and justice.
The red and blue we chose are complementary colors that symbolize her complex life path and her stubborn struggle: Lisa went through a lot of sadness and suffering, but she still continued to go forward, she did not give up on herself, she continued with faith and confidence and calmness and strived for justice and spreading her truth. At the same time, it was difficult in this process, but she marched towards the goal, (to survive) with strength, courage and might - and fought for her truth - and succeeded.
A real and amazing woman. like all of us.
WE RELATE
